George A. Longfellow, Sr. 62, of Oswego, Ill., died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Ill. He was born June 28, 1952, in Danville, the son of the late Richard and Mary Jane nee Regan Longfellow.

George served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and Oswego American Legion Post 675 both of Oswego, Ill.

During his travels for work and pleasure, George set foot in 49 out of 50 states. He never knew a stranger and had many friends. He loved his Green Bay Packers and NASCAR. George delighted in bringing smiles to children — and adults - each year when he donned his Santa hat and suit. Besides his "Santa gigs," he could be spotted anywhere from the grocery store to the airport dressed as Santa and greeting people with a boisterous "Ho Ho Ho!"

George is survived by his wife, Vicki J (Johnson) Longfellow; a son, George (Dawn) Longfellow Jr. of Mahomet, Ill.; a daughter, Sara (Eric) Carson of Oswego, Ill.; five grandchildren, Sydney and Cameron Longfellow and Carter, Laura and Cooper Carson; a sister, Kay Longfellow of Wellington, Ill.; four brothers, Richard Longfellow of Dixon, Ill., Henry (Candy Warf) Longfellow of Wellington, Ill., Tim (Loretta) Longfellow of Normal, Ill., Tom Longfellow of Las Vegas, Nev.; also by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosemary and Paula; and a brother, Tony.

Visitation will take place 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 Douglas Road Oswego, Ill.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 551 Boulder Hill Pass Oswego, Ill., followed by military honors by Oswego American Legion Post 675.

Cremation will take place at American Crematory in Oswego, Ill.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 143 1st St. Batavia, IL 60510 or St. Anne Catholic Church in Oswego, Ill.
