William Robert Barker, also known to most as Pops or Billy Bob, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 28, 2015. He was born November 2, 1924 in Commerce, Texas to Claude Neal Barker and Elizabeth Moody Barker. He was the 3rd of 6 children.

He served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines and also at Wake Island, Japan.

On December 5, 1947 Bill married the love of his life, Velma "Honey" Johnson. He worked for Humble Refinery, now Exxon Mobil in Baytown as a Boilermaker and retired as a Mechanical Supervisor. He and Honey were active members of Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church, where they were married. He was a member of the Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge, the International Brotherhood of Shriners, former Treasurer of the Gulf Coast Industrial Workers Union, former President of the Baytown Gadabouts RV Camping Club and Scout Master of Cub Scout Troop #90.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Velma "Honey" Barker, his parents and 2 older brothers Neal Barker and Moody Barker.

He is survived by his daughters Vickye Watkins and husband Tod of Deer Park and Kathy Ward and husband James of Baytown; grandchildren, Bryan Maley, Grayson Hall, Melissa Maley, Cacynda Broussard, Aleasha Shipley and husband David, Mechelle Hardin and husband Alan, Sykler Watkins and wife Brenda; 11 great-grandchildren Lauren and Caitlin Maley, Carter Hall, Laci and Lanham Noah, Corissa Owens and husband Tyler, Anna Shipley, John Shipley, Preston and Owen Watkins and Landin Hardin; and 1 great-great-granddaughter Lexi Grace Owens. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Barker, Betty Chandler and husband Joe all of New Braunfels, and Dolly Branscome and husband Gene of Colorado, sister-in-law Nita Barker Reagan of Baytown; numerous nieces and nephews and his dear 4 legged friend Gage.

Pops was active with all of his family. He went to functions and activities each one of them had and was an honorary coach for the East Little League with his grandson, Bryan Maley, on each of his teams. He was also a former special honorary coach for the Baytown Slammers Girls Softball, with his granddaughter, Melissa Maley. Pops continued to attend these functions until the last month of his life.

Mr. Barker loved to hunt, fish and play golf with his brothers and many friends. He hunted with his girls until they were grown and cherished his ranch "The Honey B" in Luling, Texas. After retirement Pops and his wife, Honey loved traveling in their motorhome with the Baytown Gadabouts Club.

He was a man with a heart and love for everyone he met. He believed in everlasting life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bill lived by these words and shared with everyone "God loves you and so do I".

The family wants to give a special thank you to Pop's caregivers, Melissa Maley, Cacynda Broussard, Jana Nelson, Heather Stutes and Robin Custer; The Angels Above Us Home Health Agency and Dr. Quynh Bui.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. John Newsome and Rev. Karen Tyler officiating. Burial with U.S. Army honors and Masonic Gravesite Rites will follow at the Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.

Pallbearers are David Shipley, John Shipley, Glenn Jennings, Dennis Jennings, Ken Horton, Alan Hardin, Skyler Watkins, Joe Braun and Lanham Noah. Honorary Pallbearer is Gene "Gabby" Hayes of Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of William R. "Pops" Barker.
