Velma was a member of Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church, charter member of the Cedar Bayou Rainbow Girls, a member of the Baytown Gadabouts RV Club and she was a retired librarian. She loved baking, sewing and cooking for her loving family. She was always known for responding with "I love you more" to each family member that told her "I love you".
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Bess Barker; father-in-law, Claude Neil Barker, brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Margaret Johnson and sister and brother-in-law, Lavern and Edwin Ratley.
Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, William Robert "Pops" Barker; daughter and son-in-law Tod and Vickye Watkins; daughter and son-in-law James and Kathy Ward; grandchildren, Bryan Maley, Melissa Maley, Cacynda Broussard, David and Aleasha Shipley, Zachary and Grayson Hall, Alan and Mechelle Hardin and Skyler and Brenda Watkins; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Caitlin Maley, Alicia Palacios, Preston and Owen Watkins, Landin Hardin, Laci and Lanham Noah, Carter Hall, Tyler and Corissa Owens, Anna and John Shipley; great-great-grandchild, Lexi Owens; special friend, Zelma Shipley and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. John Newsome and Connie Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Maley, David Shipley, John Shipley, Zachary Hall, Skyler Watkins, Alan Hardin, Jay Johnson, and Glenn Jennings.
