John Henry was the 1st born son of 10 children born to David Joseph Summerall and Elizbeth "Betsy" (Douglas) Summerall. He states on his pension application that he was born in Columbia County, Florida.

At age 18, John married Martha Ann Gaskins on October 23, 1863, in Polk County, Florida. Marriage Record pictured on the right was found on familysearch.org.

John was a Civil War Veteran. Pictured on the right is Civil War Pension Record. On this record it states that John was first in Captain F.A. Hendry's Independent Co. of Calvary and was later transferred to Captain John Parson's Company. It also states that John was discharged after Surrender and not before termination of war. He was not wounded.

On the 1870 Census, John and Martha have 2 children. The oldest is a 4 year old boy James and they have their daughter, Elizabeth Ann. She is Age 2.

On the 1885 Census John Henry and Martha have 8 children. Martha is age 34. It is possible they had more children, but I find no more Census records for them after 1885.

After 44 years of marriage, John's beloved Martha Ann passed away On August 8, 1907, at age 62.

John remarried 13 years later to Viola Starling. Bottom Marriage record pictured on the right was found on familysearch.org. After John's death, Viola applied for His Pension.

John Henry Died in Durant, Florida and was Buried on January 18, 1926, the day after his death.
