He emigrated in 1847 with his family to escape "an Gorta Mor," the Great Hunger, to Maysville. He lived with his son Tim Desmond and his family in Maysville. He is survived by daughter Honora and husband William Cotter, son Timothy and wife Catherine nee McAuliffe, son Jeremiah and wife Mary nee McAuliffe, daughter Mary and husband Patrick Devane, and several grandchildren.
