Ellen Grey Johnson was a daughter of David J Johnson and Mary Ann Macon. She was a grand-daughter of Pleasant Macon (1798-1862) and Nancy Grey Stephens ( 1798-1851) In 1860 Ellen was a tiny girl, living with her family in Tallapoosa County Alabama. When Ellen was a young girl her parents came to Texas. Her father David J Johnson supposedly became a very successful rancher. His place or date of death was never known. Her mother Mary Ann Macon Johnson , was last found in 1880 in Brady, McCulloch County Texas. After that she is no longer found, although it is known that she lived much longer with some of her children. When or where she died, seems to be lost to history In December 16,1881 Ellen married her true love, William Fletcher Weir in Brady, McCulloch County Texas. In 1900 she and her young family were living in Glasscock County Texas. Ellen and her husband raised eight children, all born in Texas. In early 1906 the family moved to New Mexico. They are found in the 1910 Lea County , N.M Census.The family purchased the historical Hat Ranch and made their home there and ranched all their lives.
