1939 Mar 14-Death-Winfield Davis, prominent St. Francis Co. farmer, passes away at Memphis Baptist Hosp. last night following a long illness. Services to be held this afternoon at Stevens FH, and interment at City Cemetery. A native of Forrest City, Mr. Davis was born on June 19,1883, the son of the late Thomas Asbury Ramsay Davis and Anna Jones Alley Davis. He lived the greater part of his life at the Davis ancestral home located west of Forrest City where he maintained farming interests. The youngest of seven children, Mr. Davis was the last to be claimed by death. His brothers and sisters preceded him in death as follows: Benjamin Davis, Jan.18,1868; Sudie Davis, Jan.29,1893; Charles A. Davis, Nov.29,1893; Henry A. Davis, Oct.12, 1920; Mattiella Davis, Jul.2,1928; Tommie Anna Davis Beazley, Dec. 11,1934. On Aug. 17,1911, he was married to Mrs. Kate Fields in Memphis, and to this union were born three children:Thomas Fields Davis, Memphis; Richard and Margaret Davis of Forrest City. Mr. Davis was a member of the Methodist Church, having been baptized in 1884 by the late Rev. Ar. R. Winfield, one of the outstanding Methodist ministers of Arkansas at that time. Mr. Davis' grandfather, the Rev. Arthur Davis was a pioneer minister of this section of the state and preached the second sermon ever delivered in Forrest City. Thoughout Mr. Davis held the respect of the people of his community. His honesty, truthfulness, and aggressiveness won admiration and love of a host of friends. He is survived by his wife and children. Rev. R. S. Hayden, pastor of First Methodist Church in charge of services. Active Pallbearers will be: Webb Sweet, Dudley McFall, J. B. Fletcher, Tom Campbell, S. C. Armstrong, and Fred Eldridge. Honorary pallbearers: S. A. Rolfe, E. A. Rolfe, E. J. Dean, George Morledge, Roger West, John Christian, Frank King, D. E. Hoshall, J. M.
