Miss Mattie Davis, age 67 years 11 months and 17 days, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. L. Beazley, at Earle, on Monday, July 2, 1928. Miss Davis was the eldest child of Thomas R. and Mrs. Anna Davis, who came here from Tennessee at the close of the Civil War, and located where the old home now stands, two miles southwest of town. Miss Davis was one of those rare characters whose life was a beautiful one because of the love and loyalty to members of her family and friends. She had a deep and abiding love for her parents and sisters and brothers. Her life was one of devotism and service. Miss Davis was a member of one of the older families of the community, and was a member of the Methodist Church practically all of her life. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Earle, with interment in City Cemetery. The immediate surviving relatives are:one sister, Mrs. W. L. Beazley, of Earle:one brother, Winfield Davis, of this city. Pallbearers were Ed Bonner, Joe Campbell, Ed Berry, Oscar Lambert, James F. Wolfe, J. W. Beazley. There were many floral tributes.
