Elder Willis farmed 181 acres in Liberty Township, Sec. 29, the original Peter Putman homeplace where he was born. He built a "handsome and commodious frame farm residence" in 1893. For eighteen years, he operated a steam thresher for which he was contracted by other farmers. They also had six producing oil wells on their property. Later, he became a truck driver for the public schools.
After Lena's death in 1921, he moved into a stucco house in Ohio City. On September 19, 1926, Elder Willis attended the Putman Reunion at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds.
