Alex was the fourth of five children born to Alexander Bailey and Francis Sophia (Pauley). He married Barbara R. White in 1939 and they had three children: Beverly Jeanne, Kenneth Richard 'Dick' and John David.

WESTMINISTER, Colo. - Alex L. Hawthorne had been auditor for the Department of Interior for several years before retiring.
Mr. Hawthorn, 65, died Monday in St. Anthony Hospital.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Elks Lodge.
He was born and educated in Bearcreek, Mont., a son of Alex B. and Fannie Hawthorne.
He married Barbara White; she died Sept. 24, 1982.
Survivors include a son, John D. of Helena, Mont.; a sister, Mina Keyser of Ronan, Mont.; a brother, Everett of Billings, Mont.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday in Moore-Howard Berkeley Park Chapel in Denier with burial in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
