Helena Hanneman was one of 12 children of John & Anna Katherine (Stellmacher) Hanneman. Only 4 lived to be adults, Gustave, Theresa, Helena & John.

In about 1897 Helena married Joseph H Hessler Jr at St John Berchman @ Mission, Detroit, MI. The couple lived in Detroit and had no children.

Lena loved dogs and took in all the stray dogs that could be found in the neighborhood, this would made too often try her husband Joe's patience.

As a young woman Helena loved to dance. She was a very kind woman, a person who was really good to everyone.
