Winston Wharton was born in Blooming Grove, Texas on April 10, 1910. Moved to Albany, Texas at age 6 and graduated from high school there in 1928. Attended University of Texas in Austin, then worked for Continental Oil. Married Ela Louise Morrel on October 18, 1936. They had one daughter, Beverly Ann, born on November 17, 1937. They moved to Olney, Texas in 1938, then to Tahoka, Texas in 1940. Winston opened Wharton Motor Company in 1942 and operated until retirement in 1978. He was also involved in farming and many civic and charitable activities in Tahoka. He was instrumental in opening the Pioneer Museum in Tahoka. He was a Mason.
