Madie Elizabeth Whorton Curb, 98, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Lakeshore Health Care Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Joe Langley officiating.

Madie was born in Navarro County, Texas, to the late Will T. and Catherine Elizabeth (Kilpatrick) Whorton. She grew up in Albany, Texas, and moved to Waco, in 1946. She was a tennis star in high school and made it to the state finals. Madie was an avid gardener throughout her life and many of her plants live on in the gardens of those who loved her.

Madie was preceded in death by husbands, O.E. Hawkins Jr. in 1935, and Delos G. Curb, M.D in 1963; a daughter, Jo Betsy Miller; two sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include daughter, Earlane Simpson and husband, Max, of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Shannon Simpson, Megan Simpson Mills and husband, James, and Chrisanna Simpson Melick and husband, Clyde, all of Waxahachie, Courtney Mitchell and wife, Sarah, of Dallas, Ryan Miller and wife, Sara, of Bullard, and Griff Miller and wife, Lori, of Mart; great-grandchildren, Atticus and Neven Simpson, Max and Alex Mills, Abigail, Sophia, and Clyde Melick, and Gage Miller; three nieces; and two nephews.
