Shirley Lorraine Thurman, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, May 28, 2012. Graveside services: 1:00pm Thursday, May 31st, 2012, Mount Hope Cemetery, Galesburg, KS. A memorial service will be held at 10am Friday, June 1, 2012 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 7901 W. 21st St., Wichita. Lorraine was born October 24, 1918 in Galesburg to Alvin and Lydia Wertz Heisey. She married Orville Thurman April 7, 1940. They lived in Harper, KS for many years where they owned and operated Thurman Hardware and Plumbing before moving to Wichita to retire. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Easter Star. Lorraine enjoyed sewing and quilting. She made nearly 2000 baby quilts for United Methodist Open Door. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Orville, and two infant children, Janice and Robert. Survivors cherishing her memory are her children, James Thurman and his wife Doris, Marcia Calvert and her husband Michael, Kathy Hostetler and her husband Rolland; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
