~MY ANCESTOR~
BIRDSEY PECK was the son of JOSIAH & HELEN (BIRDSEYE) PECK.
He married FRANCES ANN GILBERT, daughter of AMOS & ELIZABETH ANN (ALLING) GILBERT.
Family legend says that Birdsey died in the West Indies. My Dad said that he fought in the War of 1812 & was hanged as a pirate, but my grandmother said that he died of the fever. None of this has ever been substantiated.
His brother, Josiah Peck, whose interment can be seen in the Old Burying Ground in Stratford, CT. did die at St. Christophers, West Indies. Birdsey & Josiah's older brother, Thaddeaus Peck, was a cloth merchant and records show that he received supplies from the West Indies, so it is possible that Birdsey & Josiah were on business in the West Indies when they died.
The small amount of information that we have about Birdsey is from the Peck Book in which Birdsey & Francis Ann's only child & my ancestor, NATHAN BIRDSEY PECK, wrote that Birdsey's death was in 1812/1813. He would have been around 29 years of age.
What happened to Birdsey and to his wife, Frances Ann, remains a mystery. No tombstone has ever been found for either of them.
