Served the Union in the Civil War, Company E of 23rd Regiment Missouri Infantry Volunteers. Jacob was taken prisoner during the Battle of Shiloh. He mustered in 22 September 1861 at Benton Barracks, St Louis, Mo. and was dismissed due to disability 26 July 1862 at St. Louis, Mo.
