Carl W. Granger

MARION: Carl W. Granger went to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, May 26, 2014. He died peacefully at home.

He was born July 7, 1922 to Alonzo and Gertrude Granger. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1940. Carl grew up on the farm and was a true conservationist. He loved to fly and obtained his pilot's license and had many exciting adventures.

He farmed for several years and then worked 20 years on the Erie Railroad. In 1950, he obtained his Real Estate License and joined his father at Granger Realty. Later after the passing of his father, Alonzo Granger, he became the owner and broker of Granger Realty. Granger Realty served the people of the Marion Area for 75 years, from 1924 until 1998.

Carl was an avid hunter, loved to boat and Walleye Fish on Lake Erie and in Canada; he enjoyed many years of fishing with a group of friends in Canada. He was a lifelong member of Meeker Sportsmen Club and NRA, and was the oldest living member of St. Mary's Knights of Columbus. In later years he enjoyed traveling to Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Carl made several trips in Las Vegas with family and friends and also to his son Jim's home in the Cayman Island.

On June 6, 1980, Carl married Dee Granger who survives along with his six children. Surviving are children, Sue Granger, Jan Granger, Jeanne Granger, Mike (Kathy) Granger, Chris (Bev) Granger, and Jim (Karinn) Granger; step children, Vic (Inez) Smith, Kevin (Ruth) Smith, and Judy (Dan) Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Joe (Julie) Voll, Matt (Aimee) Voll, Mike (Angie) Voll, Stacey (Todd) Sims, Joie Anderson, Jill (Keith) Zabrocki, Cari Washburn, Aleece (Rian) Jester, Shane Granger, Chandra Granger, Bram Granger, Trae and Zuni Granger; step grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Chad, Amy, and Ashley; 18 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; also surviving are brothers, Edwin (Barbara) Granger, Richard Granger; sisters, Marie Zimmer, Janie Edgeington, Sister Marie Granger of The Sisters of the Spring Ohio Dominican College.

Carl is preceded in death by parents, brothers, Johnny Granger, Paul Granger and his wife Kathleen Granger, and sister, Shirley Granger.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors from 4 until 7PM with Parish Prayers at 4PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Mary Church with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
