Funeral services for Mrs. Rena Menning, 89, were June 10 at the First Reformed Church, Harrison with the Rev. A. B Meyer of the Grandview Reformed Church, Armour, officiating.
Pallbearers were Dennis Beukelman, Floyd Carlton and James Menning, Virgil Houtkooper and Eugene Van Zee.
Burial was in the Harrison cemetery under the direction of the Clements Funeral Home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1877 in Vriesland, Holland, to Minke and Sjouke Susman and died June 5 in Armour. She came to the United States with her parents when she was 15, lived at Yankton for a few years then moved to Douglas County. On Dec. 25, 1885 (not sure if the year is right- hard to read) she married James Menning at Grand View.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence, Corsica; Charles, Orchard, Neb.; John, Sioux Center, Iowa; five daughters, Mrs. Arie (Minnie) Hoekman, Armour; Mrs. Art (Rena) Beukelman and Mrs. Nelin (Ollie) Van Zee, Corsica; Mrs. Heyme (Susie) Cady, Albert Lea, Minn., and Mrs. Elmer (Julia) Houtkooper, Sioux Center, Iowa;
Also a niece who made her home with Mrs. Menning, Mrs. J.M. Duffield, Bellflower, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Julie Feenstra, Corsica, and Mrs. Jennie Den Besten,
Pella, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1957 and by four children.
