Peter served with his brother, Robert B., in the Union Army during the Civil War. His brother died in 1862 in Corinth, Mississippi. Peter obtained the rank of Sergeant in Company B, 50th Regiment of the Illinois Infantry. Peter was discharged with a disability in 1862.
Peter married Loretta J. Kendrick in Brown County, Illinois on January 23, 1873.
Peter died on November 19, 1889 and was buried at the Clayton Southside Cemetery in Adams County, Illinois.
An application was made for Peter's Civil War Pension in 1890 by Loretta J. Julian.
Loretta remarried on December 23, 1891 to J. N. Wagoner in Hancock, Illinois.
