Ulrich Stehley was baptized Ulli, he was the second of 8 children born in Schwarzenburg Canton Bern Switzerland to JACOB STAHLY and ANNA ZUTER (daughter of Hans Zuter and Elizabeth Zimmerman) who were married there 4 March 1697.

Ulrich was a wheelwright or Cartwright in Hangholtz (Wooded area) of Salm, Alsace when he married ANNA MARIA GERMANN there in 1722, he drew a wagon wheel as his mark when he signed papers, we find it in the church records on two of his children's baptisms.

Ulrich was 32 when he brought his family to Philadelphia on the Ship (Pink) "Plaisance" in Sept of 1732, only two children show up on the ships manifest. You will find his wheelwright mark there as well, when he took the oath.

In 1737 they took up land in Cocalico (now Elizabeth) Twp. Lancaster Co PA on Mill Creek with others from the same ship. BEARs, BRICKERs, ULRICHs, WOLFs, ZWALLYs, MISHLER and we know now that PETER BRICKER was one of his close friends and the godfather to his son HANS PETER STAHLY who was born in 1725 Alsace. (The extensive research of DALE BRICKER, Thank you for sharing!)
Ulrich's name appears in the first land grant records in PA as STEHLEY.

Lancaster Co Deed Book 00GG page 353-356

(Son, Jacob turned over his share of the Land in Lancaster Co to his brother Christian in 1785 and died in Harrisburg PA, Martin and Abraham sold their shares to Christian two sources say they moved to Wythe Co VA. Peter also turned over his share to brother Christian.

Not sure why son Ulrich Stealy Jr. is not mentioned but he continues on the same property in Bethel Twp and takes up more land in Mifflin Co PA. We find him and his sons, Lazarus, Jacob, Henry and Gabriel on the 1790 census there, with the spelling STEELY.

Ulrich is the subject of the book "SOME DESCENDANTS OF ULRICH STEHLEY" by Joan Butts KELLER, I was relieved to find out that she DID discover Ulrich's parents as Jacob Stahly & Anna Zuter before she passed away in 2009.
