He travelled to Vermont, USA via the port of Buffalo, New York. He was travelling to see his brother Robert in New York in 1911.

According to family stories, he was doing janitorial work for a church in Sudbury, Ontario.

It's not known where he died.
To provide for a memorial stone, donations were raised at the Fluney & Grey family reunion in July 2000.
