John Sherwood was the youngest of nine children born to Daniel Sherwood III and his wife Frances Linthicum, who came from the eastern shore of Maryland to North Carolina in the 1780s. He was the second child named John, the first having been born in August 1781, and having lived only two months.

John married Edith Vickery (c. 1786/9-1866) in March of 1811 in Randolph County, NC. She was a daughter of John Vickery and his wife Bethia, maiden name unknown, and a graddaughter of Marmaduke Vickery.

John was a school teacher and bookbinder, and in 1838, he began publication of "The Farmers' Advocate," at Jamestown, NC.

John and Edith had a number of children, I am still working on a list of them. So far, I've got:

Mary Sherwood m. Jesse Davidson in 1838, not sure about her.

Rachel Sherwood (c. 1815) m. Henry B. Davidson in 1838.

Rev. John Milton Sherwood (1822-1872) married Sarah Dewey (1828-1881) in 1855. He was a newspaper publisher early in life and then became a Presbyterian minister.

Elizabeth Sherwood (c. 1823) may have married Stanley Frazier.

Daniel N. Sherwood (c. 1827-aft. 1880) married Anna Minerva Whittington (c. 1833-1897) in 1859. He was a text book printer in Greensboro in 1862.

Martha Edith Sherwood (1829-1907) m. James McAdams.

Joshua B. Sherwood (c. 1832-c. 1861).

John died of consumption (tuberculosis) in 1865. I am afraid I do not know the exact date, or where he is buried.

I will add more information when I find it.
