Daughter of the late John and Ruby Fonda Crogan and wife of the late George A. Howes, Mrs. Howes had resided in Schaghticoke for 22 years, summered in Hedges Lake and returned to Watervliet in 1991. She was employed by the Frear Co. in Troy, Montgomery Ward in Menands and was a cook at the Hoosic Valley Central School for 13 years, retiring from there 34 years ago. Mrs. Howes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Watervliet and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and reading, and most importantly, was a foster grandmother of 36 children. Survivors include her six children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her sister and brother, Walter Crogan of Watervliet and Ruth Yonchok of Middlegrove.
