Max Leroy Petersen, 54, 709 W. 6th St., died Monday evening, June 4, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. The son of Anton C. And Velma Dorsey Petersen, he was born August 14, 1935 in Anita and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1954. As a youth, he was baptized in the Christian Church in Atlantic. He was married to Jan Shields on December 19, 1954 in Wiota. They lived in Atlantic all of their married lives. Mr. Peterson was employed with Challenge Feeds (now Archer Daniels Midlands) for 35 years, before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and Nishnah Hills Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Jan; a daughter, Diane Huddleson of Atlantic; two sons: Steve Petersen and wife, Sherry of Lincoln, Nebraska and Marty Petersen and wife, Susan of Atlantic; five grandsons: Shane, Scott and Spencer Petersen, Greg Huddleson and Max Petersen; three sisters: LaVern Martens and husband, Bud of rural Griswold; Roberta Christiansen and husband, Earl of rural Fontanelle; and Judy Roberts and husband, Jeff of Exira. He also survived by a brother, Jim Petersen and wife, Judy of Spring, Texas; two uncles; Walter Dorsey of Hollywood, Florida and Ivan Dorsey and wife, Lela of Anita; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 AM at the Roland funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Pfeffer officiating. The funeral service for Max Leroy Petersen, 54, was held at 10 AM Thursday at the Roland funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Pfeffer of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church officiating. Melinda Hendrickson was organist and selections were "the old rugged cross" and "my God and I." In charge of flowers were Leah Berry and Nancy Armstrong. Casket bearers were Don Anderson, Cliff Berry, Charles Hansen, Bill Armstrong, Jack Camp and Bob Rutherford. Kendall Warne was an honorary bearer. Burial was in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.
