Gordon was born in Modesto in 1935 to Hilmar and Louise Bailey Blaine. He lived in Turlock until the age of seven when the family moved to the family farm in Ballico.

He graduated from Livingston High School in 1952 and from U.C. Davis, where he played football and baseball, in 1957. He and his sweetheart, Margaret Hamrick, were married in 1955. He passed away just shy of 60 years of marriage.

Following college Gordon served in the U.S. Army, stationed in the New Haven, Connecticut area at a NIKE air defense facility. After two years he and Margaret and daughter Pattie returned to the farm in Ballico. He and his parents formed Willow Lake Farms, a retail/wholesale milk delivery company in which Gordon supervised sales. Son Richard was born in 1961. In 1963 Gordon started a 20-year career with World Book/Childcraft, attaining the position of Division Sales Manager overseeing an organization in five Valley and foothill counties.

Gordon purchased the Modesto franchise of the California Closet Company in 1983 and operated the company until selling it in 2000. He retired from part-time sales with California Closets in 2009.

He is a long-time member of First Baptist/CrossPoint Community Church, serving as a deacon and many years as an adult Sunday School Teacher. His many interests have included reading, fishing, running and judging his beloved Beagle hounds, and playing handball and softball. He was also an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Hilmar and Louise Blaine, son Richard, and brother Douglas. He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret, daughter Pattie Blaine, and brother Stanley Blaine.

Celebration of life will be at Crosspoint Community Church in Modesto on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Military Graveside will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 12:30 p.m.
