Von graduated from Ruskin High School in 1933. After service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was united in marriage to Lee Goodrich on August 14, 1946 and they settled in the Earlham community. To this union four children were born.
Von was an active member of the Earlham business community for nearly 30 years until his retirement in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Lee in 1973.
On August 6, 1977 he was married to Vera Jones. His survivors include his wife, Vera; daughter, Sue Fletcher of Hebron, Nebraska; three sons, Richard of Austin Texas, Roger of Colorado Springs, Colorado and David of Des Moines, Iowa; three stepchildren, Phyllis Jones of Peru, Iowa, Willis Jones of Van Meter, Iowa and Alberta Brown of Webster City, Iowa; two grandchildren, Steven and Brian Fletcher; two stepgrandchildren, Lisa Brown and Jerrod Lorimer; one sister, Twilla Jensen of Waterloo, Iowa, and a brother, Wendell of Lincoln, Illinois.
Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
