Dr Bowie, dentist, dies at 90

Dr. Asa R Bowie, 90, a long-time Oskaloosa area dentist died Sunday at the Mahaska Manor Nursing home.

Funeral services for Dr. Bowie will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev Raymond Ticknor officiating. Burial will be a the Forest Cemetery.

Dr. Bowie was born April 18, 1887, at Atalissa, Iowa, the son of Asa and Elinor Wilkinson Bowie. He was graduated from the University of Iowa Dental College in 1920 and soon after opened his practice in New Sharon. On Oct. 26, 1912, he married Lucile Seary of New Sharon. Three years later they moved to Oskaloosa, where he began practicing with the late Dr. B. B. Redman. He practiced dentistry in the Oskaloosa area for 60 years.

Dr. Bowing was a life-long member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Tri-Luminar Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Kiwanis, and a member of the American Dental Association.

Surviving are his wife and one son. Dr. Kenneth Bowie, of Oskaloosa; to daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Eleanor) Sanders, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Mrs. William David (Eileen) George, Houston, Tex., and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and one infant son.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
