JAMES SIMONS: Sturgis; 77, died Wednesday at Sturgis Community Hospital. He was born 9 Jul 1907 at White Owl, SD, a son of Billy and Lettie Simons. He was raised at White Owl. In Feb 1927 he married Honey Horton in Sturgis. They later moved to Marcus, where he was in the trucking business. From 1942-47 they operated the Plainview Store then returned to Marcus and the trucking business. In 1950 they moved to Sturgis, he was appointed Meade County Highway Superintendent and worked there until retirement. In Sep 1980 he entered Sturgis Community Nursing Home and had lived there since. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge and Sturgis Senior Citizens. Surviving are his widow Mabel, Sturgis; 2 sons: Louie, Las Vegas, NV; John, Denver, CO; 3 daughters: Lucille (Mrs. Clinton Tysdale), Red Owl; Bonnie, (Mrs. Jerry Hunt), Phoenix; Vonda (Mrs. Volmer Jensen), Baltimore, MD; 1 sister: Ida Kayrasvopio, Sturgis; 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1959, 1 son: Galen, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Services will be held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jack Whetzel and Father Tom Gorman officiating. Arrangements by FO Jolley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
