HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Lester Herman "Tom" Bageant, 84, of Engle Switch Road, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Canterbury Center, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Born Dec. 21, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wilmer Taylor and Ida Snowden Bageant.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gladys Mae Kranenberg Bageant.

He was formerly employed by Russell Fritts Furniture Store, Charles Town, W.Va.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He was a Methodist.

He is survived by five sons, Thomas Bageant of Marianna, Ark., Richard Bageant of Martinsburg, W.Va., Jerry Bageant of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Randy Bageant of Engle Switch and Stacy Bageant of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one sister, Evelyn Spitzer of Ranson, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Root, Juanita Balwanz and Elizabeth Owens, and one brother, Donald Bageant.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
