True Republican, 19 June 1895

Mrs. Mary A. Schmoldt died June 11, 1895, from the effect of an operation for the removal of an inward cancer, at the age of 58 years and 11 months. She submitted to an operation a few weeks since which did not prove successful. A week ago last Tuesday the operation was repeated. Inflammation set in and she passed into the sleep of death at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning.

She was the daughter of Charles and Phoebe Townsend, and was born in Sullivan county, N.Y., July 11, 1836. She was married to Oscar Schmoldt, in Mayfield township, DeKalb county, Ill., April 11, 1866. To them were born two children, William A. and May. William died at the age of 21 years. Seven days later, January 16, 1890, his father died.

They have been residents of Sycamore for about four years, and endeared themselves to all who knew them. Mrs. Schmoldt entered the service of the Lord in early life and continued true to her profession to the end. She was for many years a firm believer in the doctrine of the bible as believed and advocated by the Advent Christian church.

The funeral services were held at her residence in Sycamore at 10:30 o'clock Thursday last. There were many relatives and a large number of friends in attendance, who sympathize with May, who is the only surviving member of the family. Five brothers and two sisters of Mrs. Schmoldt survive. Services were conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. J. G. Brooks. Text, Job 14: 14; after which we tenderly laid her away to rest in Elmwood cemetery, to await the crowning day. GEO. J. FRENCH, Pastor A. C. church, Genoa, Ill.

I don't manage the memorial for Mary's daughter, May. So I include her obituary here.

Impressive final services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Van Natta Funeral Home for Mrs. Frank Ault, 86, beloved and prominent lifelong resident of Mayfield Township, who passed away Friday morning at the Sycamore Municipal Hospital, where she had been a patient for 15 months. Death came as a gentle relief to her many months of illness and confinement.

The Rev. J. Merlyn Bilhorn of the Mayfield Church officiated and burial took place in the Maple cemetery at Kirkland.

May Schmoldt was born in Mayfield Township on April 26, 1872, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Anne Townsend Schmoldt. She was educated in the Sycamore Schools.
