Ann Broach Whitfield, 87, of 6146 Hurdle Mills Rd., died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at her residence. Born in Person County, Mrs. Whitfield was the daughter of the late Samuel Nathaniel and Alice Virginia Scoggin Broach and wife of the late Benjamin Coleman Whitfield. Mrs. Whitfield retired from the Person County Register of Deeds after 30 years and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. An avid historian, she was a member of the Person County Historical Society and the DAR. Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Broach and her daughter-in-law, Cathy Whitfield.

Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her children, B. Coleman Whitfield and wife Vickey and Martin B. Whitfield, all of Roxboro and Margie Whitfield, of Raleigh; one brother, Nathaniel "Nat" Broach, of Hurdle Mills; one sister, Iris Broach Wrenn, of Roxboro; two grandchildren, Nicky Horner and husband Randy and Brian Whitfield; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas "Nick" Clayton, Adam Clayton, Benjamin Whitfield and Bryson Whitfield and her loving step-great-granddaughter, Kimberly Horner.

Funeral services will be held 11AM, Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Brooks & White Chapel by the Dr. M. David Chambers, Rev. Norma Walters Roberts, and Rev. Donald Daniels. Burial will follow in the Clayton-Long Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:30-8:30PM, Tuesday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Powell, Wendell Cox, Randy Horner, Brian Whitfield, Kent Cash, Todd Clayton, Darnell Wolfe, Nick Clayton, and Adam Clayton. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Broach, Ken Dalton, Wallace Bradsher, Tim Whitfield, Dewey Jones, Sammy Wrenn, Bruce Wrenn, Paul Jones, Danny Morris, Randy Whitfield, Edward Whitfield, and Larry Dowell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Pam Rodgers, 135 Clay Long Rd., Hurdle Mills, NC 27541 or Hurdle Mills Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 160, Hurdle Mills, NC, 27541 or Person County Historical Society, P.O. Box 887, Roxboro, NC, 27573.
