Teresa Jean Odermann Weinand, 81, died March 2, 2015, at Sanford on Sunset Continuing Care Center, after a long illness.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen, with Fr. Kenneth Phillips, Fr. Valerian Odermann, Fr. Roger Synek, and Fr. Charles Zins concelebrating. Burial will be at 3:00 PM CST, at St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery, Parshall, ND, with a reception to follow at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM CST on Friday, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Hazen.

Teresa was born on September 20, 1933, to Regina and Henry Odermann and raised on a farm in Elbowoods, ND, before the area was flooded for the creation of Lake Sakakawea.

She married Thomas (Tomcat) Weinand on June 16, 1953, at the Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND. The couple later settled on a farm near Raub, ND, where they farmed and ranched for 45 years until Tomcat’s death in 1998. Teresa and Tomcat were blessed with eight children and Teresa was fond of saying, “the only crop that never failed was the baby crop”.

After Tomcat’s death, Teresa resided in Dickinson, ND, with her sister, Phyllis Odermann, until 2005 when Phyllis moved to an assisted living facility. Teresa then lived in Hazen, ND, for several years until she was diagnosed with bone cancer in March, 2014, and required nursing home care.

We believe that Teresa may have set a “visitor record” during her stay at Sanford on Sunset. She received numerous daily visits from friends and family which served as a testament to the number of people she touched in her 81 years of life. Teresa never forgot a joke and always laughed the loudest and longest. To say that she was loved by many is a huge understatement, and the void she leaves in her family and friends lives is indescribable.

Teresa was a devout Catholic and strong “Right to Life” supporter. She enjoyed travel and particularly has special memories of her trips to the Holy Land in 1979, Rome in 1988, and Medjugorje in 2006.

Teresa is survived by her children, Margaret (Wayne) Schempp, Liz (Robert) Huus, Monica (Lonnie) Liebel, John (Tena) Weinand, Susan (Robert) Beattie, Rick (Joy) Weinand, Sharon (Ray) Knutson, Janet (Dean) Dahl, 37 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Odermann, Joan Odermann, Cecile (Alfred) Volesky; brother, Harold (Helen) Odermann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Tomcat; sister, Doris Stevenson; brothers, Fr. John Odermann and Lloyd Odermann; two grandchildren, Sean and Charis Knutson.

Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Homes, Beulah and Hazen.
