Levi served in Co. D., of the 200th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. His brother Benjamin served with him; they had enlisted together on August 23, 1864 at Camp Curtin.
On April 26, 1870 Levi married Alice Cameron at the First United Brethren Church in York, Pennsylvania. Levi and Benjamin moved their families to Kansas prior to 1880 when, on September 25th, Levi was elected councilman in the first municipal election for the city of Harper, Kansas.
Levi took part in the Cherokee Strip Run on September 16, 1893 when, according to the 'Town History of Harper, Kansas' "A Cyclone wiped out the town of Harper, Kansas. Instead of staying to rebuild the town a list of men, including Lee Hake, went to the opening of the Cherokee Strip."
Levi and Alice had ten children.
