Frances C. Hovey, 93, DeWitt, died early Tuesday morning, October 5, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.

Mrs. Hovey, the former Frances Cecelia Watters was born June 16, 1917 in Petersville, Iowa, to James L. and Teresa (Costello) Watters. She graduated from Delmar High School in 1935. On March 17, 1937, Frances was united in marriage to Max H. Hovey in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Delmar.

Frances was a true homemaker, raising their family of seven children. She also did housekeeping for area families and cleaned at various businesses. Max preceded Frances in death May 17, 1978.

She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, and the altar and rosary society. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Surviving are her children, Donna Jean Sutton, Maquoketa, Frances Kay Tooker, Eagle Point, Oregon, Beverly (Charles) Trimble, Superior, Arizona, Max A. (Bonnie) Hovey, DeWitt, Philip E. (Judith) Hovey, Bellevue; 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Karen Hovey, St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Judy Hovey, Eldridge, Iowa.

Preceding Frances in death in addition to her husband, were her parents, sons, Robert and Donald, sons-in-law, James Sutton and Ronald Tooker, brothers, Charles, LeRoy, Paul and Leonard and a sister, Loretta Cleary.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2010. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, in the Church. The Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly will officiiate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be designated to St. Joseph School or Westwing Place.
