Service Company
Born in Charlotte, a small rural town in eastern Iowa, son of James L. and Theresa G. (Costello) Waters
Enlisted for military service in May 1942, volunteered and served with the First Special Service Force in Service Company. When the FSSF was disbanded in southern France in Decemeber 1944, LeRoy transferred to the 474th Infantry Regiment, he was honorably discharged in October 1945.
LeRoy moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1949.
In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force, in recognition of its superior service during World War II.
