Joseph Marion Akin was the 5th born child of 8 children and 3rd son of 5 sons born to Joseph Kibbin Akin b.14 Sep 1806 in Cumberland Co., KY (possibly Chesterfield Co., VA)& d.25 Oct 1886 in Adair Co., KY (Leatherwood area)-and to- Nancy B. Fowler b.abt 1810 in Barren Co., KY & d.23 Feb 1887 in Leatherwood, Adair Co., KY and who were married 26 Mar 1829 in Cumberland Co., KY.

Joseph died while living with his son Wyatt K. Akin's family in Elroy, Adair Co., KY as did his 2nd spouse, Amanda.

Marriage #1: Married America F. Christie on 11 Dec 1867 in Adair Co., KY. America was b.abt 1840 in Green Co., KY & d.abt 1872 in Leatherwood, Adair Co., Ky.

Joseph and America had 2 children, who were:

1. Arminta A. Akin b.abt 1869 in Adair Co., KY & d.unknown.
Married: Unknown Haughton or Hambleton abt 1867 in Adair Co., KY.

2. Dorthela E. Akin b.Jul 1871 in Adair Co., KY and d.unknown.

Marriage #2: Amanda Louisa Christie on 16 Dec 1873 in Adair Co., KY. Amanda was b.3 May 1844 in Barren Co., KY & d.25 Mar 1935 in Elroy, Adair Co., KY. Amanda was America F. Christie's younger sister.

Joseph and Amanda had two children, who were:

1. Wyatt Kibbin Akin b.23 Sep 1874 in Adair Co., KY & d.23 Aug 1941 in Adair Co., KY.
Marriage #1: Married Minerva Ellen Gabbert aka Minnie on 14 Jan 1898 in Adair Co., KY.
Marriage #2: Married: Mary Ellen Thompson abt 1928 in Adair Co., KY.

2. Zavada Quintilla Akin (Female) b.Feb 1878 in Adiar Co., KY & d.30 Oct 1878 in Adair Co., KY.

I have to admit, quite a strange name for a child.

Marriage#3: There is a possibility that Wyatt was married or had a child prior to the above two marriages. I am still researching this.

Joseph Marion Akin is actually buried in Gowen Cemetery behind the Sparksville Baptist Church in Sparksville, Adair, KY along with his spouse Amanda and daughter-in-law, Minerva "Minnie" (Gabbert) Akin, who was the 1st spouse of Wyatt Kibbin Akin, Joseph's son.

Gowen Cemetery was a lost cemetery but now its location is disclosed, thanks to Pamela (Akin) Fink.
