He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and Korean War. He is a retired truck driver and a native of Utica, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine (Trueblood) Hall; sons, Paul Edward Hall, Jeffersonville; Terry Lynn Hall, Jeffersonville; daughters, Betty Ann (Hall) Shaw, Utica, and Cheryl Sue (Hall) Morrow, Jeffersonville; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Tunney was preceded in death by his son, James Howard "Bobo" Hall, Jr.; father, Joseph Horton Hall; mother, Viola Elizabeth (Hall) Hall; and grandson, Larry Allen Morrow.
