Neal Wesley Way, 84, Independence, Mo., passed away Thursday, November 15, at Centerpoint Hospital.
Neal was born December 20, 1922 in Talmo, Ks. to Wesley and Addie (Acheson) Way. He proudly served as a decorated Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 36th Infantry Division during World War II, following General Omar Bradley from North Africa, through Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He earned five bronze stars and a bronze arrowhead during his service.
After 38 years of government service Mr. Way retired from Veterans' Medical Center/Kansas City in 1980 where he headed the orthopedic department. Neal and his wife, Agnes, lived in Independence for over 50 years. Mr. Way loved his family dearly and was a dedicated husband and father.
He is survived by his three daughters - Carolyn Harrison and husband Steve of St. Joseph, Mo., Rebecca Garrett and husband George of Blue Springs, Mo., Janean Mills and husband Steve of Raymore, Mo.; two grandsons - Jordan Mills and wife Melissa of Raytown, Mo., Matt Mills and wife Anya currently stationed at Mildenhall Air Force Base, Great Britain; and three great-granddaughters - Abbigayle, Averie and Alaina Mills; four nieces; and three nephews. Neal was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Agnes (Todd) Way, in March 2005.
