Mrs. Josephine Cleveland, daughter of Martin and Francis Veroda, was born November 9, 1872 near Cuba, Kan., and died on March 22, 1960 at the Belleville Hospital in Belleville, Kan., at the age of 87 years, four months and thirteen days.

She lived her early life on the homestead farm near Cuba. In 1894 she married George Cleveland and moved with him to a farm near Agenda. This union was blessed with five children. After her husband George passed away in 1943 she moved to the city of Cuba. She lived in Cuba until about a year preceding her death when she moved to Belleville because of failing health. She kept busy with her house work and farm work during her life and was of great assistance to her husband on the farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, Joe and Milek Veroda; a sister, Mrs. Francis Hubka and one son, Arthur Cleveland who died in July of 1957.

Surviving and mourning her passing are three brothers, Ed Veroda of Cuba, Kan., Victor Veroda of Texas, and Jim Veroda of Haddam, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Sedlacek of Cuba, Mrs. Helen Potter of Washington, Kan., and Mrs. Ella Bouska of Haddam; a son, Clarence Cleveland of Agenda; three daughters, Mrs. John McHugh of Agenda, Mrs. Florence Lang of Belleville, and Mrs. Ben Cherney of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Cleveland of Lincoln, Neb.; and ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Her family was pioneers in this area of Kansas and she had many memories of the historical west to pass on to her children and grandchildren.

Interment was made in Kopsa cemetery, Cuba, Kan.
