Anna Aleene White Barnes was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Glenpool to Daniel Boone White and Launa Coleman White and passed away Sunday, May 5, 2012, in Tecumseh.
Her father worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron building oil tank farms, so she grew up with her family following the latest oil strike. As a teenager, she went to live with her Grandmother Coleman in Farmington, N.M. That was where she met and married Charles Barnes on Jan. 29, 1929. They were going to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary when he passed away just 11 days short of their anniversary.
In the early days of their marriage, he went to work as a baker for Navaho Indian Reservations first in New Mexico and then in Arizona. She loved to collect anything to do with Native American culture. Some of her favorite stories were about the years they lived on the reservations.
They were there until World War II when they went to California to work in the Naval ship yards as welders.
Mrs. Barnes lived in California until 1990 when she returned to Oklahoma to be closer to family. She was gifted gardener and enjoyed sewing and planning new things for her house and yard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant twin son, Lummie Barnes; son, Charles Delaney Barnes II; brothers, Danny White, Gordon "Rabbit" White, Earl White, D.B. White, and Albert McLemore.
