--------------------
Obituary published Sep 1842 in the "Jacksonville Republican."

Departed this life on the 23d August last, as his residence in Chockolocko Valley, Benton Co, Ala. Mr. Jonathan Whiteside in the thirty-eighth year of his age.

Mr. Whiteside emigrated from Rutherford Co, N.C. to this state about seven years since, and resided from that time up to the day his of [sic] death in this county. He was in the true acceptation of term, a gentleman - and was esteemed by all who knew him as one of our most worthy citizens. He left a wife and a son - his only child, to mourn his loss - but they weep not as those without hope, the deceased left evidences of an adamantly satisfactory character, that his peaceful spirit only waited for a release from its earthly casket to wing its majestic flight to the Elysian fields of Paradise.
