"Clinton, July 16. -- Edward B. Barker, one of Clinton's best known residents, passed away at Utica yesterday, where he had gone a few weeks ago for medical treatment. He had been in failing health for several years and his condition became so serious a short time ago that he was removed to Utica, where he could receive the best of medical attention in hopes of benefiting his condition, but it was of no avail, and his death occurred yesterday. Mr. Barker was a lifelong resident of this vicinity, having been born Feb. 14, 1847, on the Barker homestead, about three and a half miles east of the village, where he resided until about 10 years ago, when he removed with his family to this village, where had since resided ... Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Edwin K. Draper of California, Miss Florence K. Barker and Miss Elsie Barker of Clinton; one son, Frank Barker of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Slocum and Mrs. William Lapham of South Bend, Ind., and one brother, George A. Barker of Clinton. The funeral will be held from his late home on Marvin street Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock." ["The Rome Daily Sentinel" (Rome, NY), Wednesday Evening, July 16, 1913, Page Seven]
