The hand of death has removed T. W. Martin, one of the pioneer residents of the county. He died Wednesday morning at 2 o'clock; at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Livengood, 508 W. Jackson street, of Bright's disease and complications, aged 71 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Mr. Martin was a member of a well known Appanoose county family which came here in an early day from Indiana, his father being Willis Martin, who lived to an advanced age. They came to Iowa in 1850. Of the family of eight children four are yet living, Elvin, of Colorado; J. C., Unionville, Mo.; Alex and Will, Centerville. Three sisters are deceased, Mrs. Adeline Hughes, Corydon; Mrs. Nancy Ann Dukes, Centerville; Mrs. Elizabeth Simmons, Chicago.

Mrs. Martin died August I8, 1907. Since that time he has made his home here a part of the time and a part of the time in Chicago. His sister died there and about six months ago he returned to Centerville to make his home with his adopted daughter, Mrs. J. M. Livengood. He was then in failing health and has been confined to the house ever since. As the end approached he was entirely resigned and met his death as one who had lived out his days and fallen in due season. He was given the tenderest attention during his illness and came to the end of his days in contentment.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist church, conducted by Rev. A. C. Hageman, and burial was at Oakland cemetery.
