MEMPHIS — Joe Neal Berry, 93, of Memphis died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Church of Christ in Memphis with Minister Dick Marcear and Minister Mark Lance officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview. Arrangements are by Peppers Family Funeral Home of Memphis.

Joe Neal Berry was born June 14, 1921, in Lakeview to Fay Berry and Laura Caldwell Berry. He graduated Lakeview High School in 1940. On Dec. 30, 1945, Joe Neal married Lucille Goffinett in Lubbock. She preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2002. Mr. Berry was a member and past Elder of Church of Christ in Memphis.

Joe was a World War II veteran, serving in the field artillery division in the Army. He served 26 months in New Guinea before being transferred to the Philippines. Mr. Berry was a Bronze Star recipient. Joe spent the rest of his time farming and ranching in Hall County. Joe served as Hall County commissioner for several years and on the Hall County picnic board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Lucille; a daughter, Gina Streetman; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Landa Murray and husband John of Kress and Joan Cosgrove and husband Mark of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Lakeview Cemetery, 13426 County Road D, Lakeview, TX 79239.
