In the passing of Grandma Taylor of Alfalfa, Caddo county lost a pioneer who left a rare heritage to her community, a large family. She was the mother of 12 children, nine of whom survive her span of nearly 85 years.
Grandma was at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ada Blake, in Amarillo, where she had been visiting for three weeks, when she died.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Collins at Alfalfa Sunday at 2:30 following her death on Saturday Burial was made in the Alfalfa cemetery.
Lucy E. Wingfield was born February 9, 1853 in Virginia, and died November 27, 1937, aged 84 years, 9 months and 18 days.
She was united in marriage to V.F. Taylor in Upshur county. W. Va.,on November 28, 1872. To this union 12 children were born. Three preceding her in death were Alfred Taylor, Mrs. Nettie Goodwin and Mrs. Osa Parker.
Mrs. Taylor came to Oklahoma with her family in 1901 and had made her home here most of the time since. Her husband precede her in death March 27, 1929.
She was converted at an early age and lived a devoted life to her Master, husband, children and friends. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Methodist church at Alfalfa.
She is survive seven sons, 0.W. Taylor, Carnegie; Taylor. Anadarko; Glen Taylor, Alfalfa; 0. J. Taylor, Eakly; Roy Taylor, Arvin, Calif.; Bert Taylor, Beverly, WV. Va., Phay Taylor, Elkins, WV. and two daughters, Mrs. Blake and Mrs. Maud Powell, Norton, WV. Va.
