Elmer P. Bachtell

Elmer P. Bachtell, 92, of 133 Broadway, died suddenly Wednesday at his home.

He was born at Edgemont, a son of Tracy A. and Amanda Stouffer Bachtell and was employed by Western Maryland Railway. He had served as freight agent in various stations in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Prior to his retirement in 1953 he had worked at the Hagerstown station for 40 years.

He had been active in the Chamber of Commerce in Hagerstown for 40 years and served as its treasurer from 1957 until April 1970. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Greensburg; Masonic Lodge of Hagerstown; charter member of Ali Ghan Temple Shrine of Cumberland; charter member of Hagerstown Traffic Club.

He is survived by son, Elmer P. Jr. of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; on great-grandchild; sisters, Mrs. Nora Bowman of Chewsville, Mrs. Joseph M Smith of Hagerstown.

Services will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Arthur Grove will officiate; entombment will be in Smithsburg Mausoleum.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 9.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
