Agnes Jorgensen, 85, of Le Mars and formerly of La Vernia, Texas, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Agnes Lassen was born Dec. 24, 1917, on the family farm near Remsen, in Fredonia Township, the daughter of Alfred and Herlig (Mortensen) Lassen. She was baptized Feb. 4, 1918, and confirmed May 14, 1932, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Oyens. She grew up on the family farm in Fredonia Township and attended country school.

Agnes was united in marriage to Sherman Arthur Jorgensen on Feb. 24, 1938, at her parents' home. Agnes and Sherman farmed in the Marcus area and other areas in Plymouth County until the early 1960s when they moved to the San Antonio, Texas, area. The couple retired in LaVernia, Texas. Sherman died on April 17, 1991. Agnes continued to live in Texas until earlier this year when she moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars to be closer to her brother, Ervin Lassen.

Agnes was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in LaVernia, Texas, and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Sadie Lassen of Le Mars; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Gordon Skordahl of Springfield, Mo.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Herlig Lassen; her husband, Sherman; and a sister, Esther Juhl.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Borchers, Gaylan Lassen, Delwyn Lassen, Sherwin Lassen, Bradley Borchers and Daniel Lassen.
