Funeral services for Vern Carlson, 83, of rural Wakefield were held on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord. Rev. Duane Marburger officiated. The congregation sang "Abide with Me", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."



Bonnie Marburger sang "How Great Thou Art". Organist was Mrs. Naomie Peterson.



Vern Lester Hartvig was born on May 1, 1908 on a farm near Wakefield the son of Frank and Esther Johnson Carlson. He passed away on; May 1, 1991 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.



He was baptized on June 19, 1908 and confirmed on May 24, 1925 at Concordia.



Vern and Nina Anderson were married on September 1, 1940 at Wakefield. The couple farmed 'northwest of Wakefield. He was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord and served on the church council.



He was preceded in death by, a sister.



He is survived by his wife, Nina; two sons, Randall of Wakefield and Lyle of Allen; a .daughter, Mrs. Tom (Kathy) Gannon of North Platte; three sisters, Hazel Carlson, Minnie Carlson and Opal Carlson, all of Wakefield; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Wallace Anderson, Clayton Anderson, Harlin Anderson, Kenneth Anderson, Alvin Anderson and Darold Rice: Honorary pallbearers were Glen Magnuson, Earl Anderson, Donald Anderson, Clifford Fredrickson, Richard Anderson, Russell Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Valjean Anderson and Delmar Carlson. Interment was in the Concord Cemetery.
