Sampson Hawn, son of Christian Hawn and Anna Magdalena Shell, was born 1799/1800 in Lincoln Co., NC. He married Hannah Whitener January 3, 1822 in Lincoln Co., NC. Hannah was the daughter of Benjamin Whitener and Mary Magdalena Whisenhunt. Sampson and Hannah went to Missouri, and are listed in the Cape Girardeau Co. census in 1830, 1840, and 1850. In 1850 both Sampson and Hannah were 50 years old. They had nine children: Margaret Eliza, Benjamin, Alfred, Henry, Daniel, John, Peter, Andrew Jackson, and Mary "Polly" Ann. Sampson and Hannah do not appear in the 1860 census, so they were probably deceased by then. The place of burial is unknown.
