"D. W. BAKER DIES HERE OF STROKE
"Life-Long Resident Of County Stricken On Farm Saturday
"Dimmitte W. Baker, 70 year old pioneer Wapello county farmer and father of Sheriff Ralph N. Baker of Ottumwa, died at 6 p.m. Saturday at Ottumwa hospital, following a paralytic stroke suffered five hours earlier.
"Mr. Baker had apparently been in his usual good health, according to members of his family. Shortly after noon, Saturday he had gone to the barnyard on his farm to assist another man in the weighing of a load of corn when he was stricken. He was taken immediately to the local hospital.
"Mr. Baker was one of the better known Wapello county farmers, having lived on the same farm near Chillicothe since his birth, August 2, 1851 (sic). The land was the property of his father and came into possession of the family when the territory opened for settlement by pioneers.
"A farmer, livestock and grain dealer all his life, Mr. Baker was also interested in many other activities in the Chillicothe community. At the time of his death he was president and director of the Chillicothe Savings bank and a member of the Christiansburg Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he had held many offices during his lifetime. He has also taken an active part in republican politics, heading the precinct committee for the party on several occasions.
"In addition to the local sheriff, Mr. Baker is survived by another son, Claude F. Baker of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. C.A. Swanson of Chillicothe and Mrs. Paul McMillin of Granger; one brother, H.P. Baker of Odessa, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. H.G. Jones of Odessa, Mo. and Mrs. William Percy of El Paso, Tex. and seven grandchildren. His wife, Hester Baker, died more than six years ago, on February 23, 1925.
"Funeral services will be held at the Christiansburg Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Treverton Warren of Richland in charge, assisted by the Rev. C.H. Chader. Music will be furnished by Albert Peterson and Edna Peterson.
"Active pallbearers will include Fred Swanson, M.I. Dickson, Arden Rose, Arthur Sweeney, Carl Peterson and Clyde H. Updegraff. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter T. Hall, Wilfred Johnson, George Jenkins, Will Dickson, Alex Anderson, Charles Wallace, C.S. Smith, Emmett Work, C.S. Harper, C.G. Merrill, G.F. Spry, Cyrus K. Blake, M.A. Roberts, J.C. Jordan, Gus Seaburg and Henry Oswald."

"Active pallbearers will include Fred Swanson, M.I. Dickson, Arden Rose, Arthur Sweeney, Carl Peterson and Clyde H. Updegraff. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter T. Hall, Wilfred Johnson, George Jenkins, Will Dickson, Alex Anderson, Charles Wallace, C.S. Smith, Emmett Work, C.S. Harper, C.G. Merrill, G.F. Spry, Cyrus K. Blake, M.A. Roberts, J.C.
